AI for Human Rights (“we”, “our”, “us”) takes your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy Notice explains what personal information we collect, when and why we collect it, how we use it, how long we keep it, the conditions under which we may share it with others, how we keep it secure and your rights in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation ((EU) 2016/679) (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. 

In this Privacy Policy Notice “personal information” or “personal data” means information that (either in isolation or in connection with other information held by us) enables you to be identified as an individual or recognised directly or indirectly. This may include your name, company name, postal address, email address, phone number, payment information, details of the preferences you express to us, your comments and questions, and technical information from the devices you use to access our website.

AI for Human Rights  is a non-profit organisation that is committed to ensuring that AI technologies are developed, deployed and government in a way that protects and enhances Human Rights through youth-led education, policy campaign and advocacy.  

Our role as data controllers means we are responsible for how your personal data is processed. 

2. What type of personal data do we collect?  

We may collect and process the following types of personal data: 

  • Contact Information: such as your name, email address, phone number, postal address. 
  • Donors: such as your name, contact information, employment information, bank details, payment method, and communication preferences. 
  • Event Participation: details of your participation in events, including personal registration information such as your name, email address, phone number, postal address. 
  • Website Activity: when you visit our website, we may use cookies and other technologies to automatically collect the following information which helps us understand how users interact with our website:  
  • Technical information, including your IP address, browser type and version, device identifier, location and time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform, page response times and download errors; 
  • information about your visit, including the websites you visit before and after our website and items you viewed or searched for; 
  • and length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks and mouseovers) and methods used to browse away from the page. 
  • Volunteer Information: such as personal details, emergency contacts, and your role within the organisation. 

3. Why and how do we collect and use personal data?  

We collect and use your personal data for the following purposes which are related to meeting the aims for the organisation: 

  • Providing Our Services: event participation (including but not limited to conferences, lectures, workshops, webinars and other virtual and physical events), knowledge-sharing (through articles and newsletters), and volunteer roles (which involves processing your application, running the volunteers programme, tracking your involvement and offering you opportunities) 
  • Communications: to send you information about our services, events, fundraising campaigns, and other activities related to our work. 
  • Fundraising and Support: to process and administer your donations and provide receipts, acknowledge your contributions, promotional purposes and keep you updated on how your support is making a difference. 
  • Compliance: to ensure we comply with relevant laws, regulations, and any legal obligations. 
  • Improving Our Website and Services: to analyse how users interact with our website and improve their user experience. 

4. Legal basis for processing your data  

We rely on the following legal bases to process your personal data:

  • Right to Data Portability: You can request a copy of your personal data in a structured, electronic format, and machine-readable format.

8. Security  

Measures we have implemented to safeguard personal information in our custody and control include, limiting access to personal information only to employees and authorised service providers who need to know such information for the purposes set out in this Privacy Notice, as well as other technical, administrative and physical safeguards. 

Please note that due to the inherent nature of the internet as an open global communications vehicle and other risk factors, we cannot guarantee that any information, during transmission or while stored on our systems, will be absolutely safe from intrusion by others, such as hackers.

We will retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including any legal or reporting obligations. Once this period has elapsed, we will securely delete or anonymise your data.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated policy on our website. Ideally you should check the Privacy Policy regularly for updates. We won’t alert you to every minor change, but if there are any really important changes to the Privacy Notice or to how we use your information we’ll let you know.
